Instead of girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, my friends and I are plastered bitches with fake eye lashes. We ride in our cars with the windows down, yelling the lyrics to our favorite song. We stay up all night drinking, spending money that we don’t have. We promise ourselves that if we keep it cool and casual this time that it will work out and he will be the one. We are reckless, we are young, we are wild, and we are free. This is what it means to be in your late twenties.
Waking up hung over with last night’s mascara running down our faces as we laugh about the stupid things we said after we woke up in someone else’s bed. We are bold, we are loud, we are beautiful, and nothing can take away our voice. Long gone are the days of being told to be quiet, long gone are the days of not having a say or not having a choice. This is my twenties for Christ sake, this is all about me finding my voice.
Romance is not what we thought it was. Instead of walking down the aisle, we do the walk of shame. Text messaging has become the standard form of communication. Dating has become so relentless, we begin to wonder if we need a vacation. Our lives have become the sequel to 50 First Dates, stuck in the matrix somewhere in the space time continuum, reliving the same scenario date after date. Asking about their travels, hometowns, past relationships, and sexual history. Sitting there, staring, as they become less and less of a mystery. Forever enjoying the ride, the conversation, occasionally spacing out, trying to have a good time, and just enjoy this season of life.
So this is it, this is the life. Take or leave it. Welcome to The Austin Dating Chronicles.
